Project Description
The main design feature of the new eleven gate concourse was a tensile
roof structure, using teflon coated fiberglass membrane, that floats
over an open air concourse and enclosed holdrooms and concessions. The
use of tensile fabric construction on the concourse protects the main
circulation areas from the elements while providing opportunities for
natural ventilation, shade and illumination. The design reinforces the
image of the airport as America’s premier resort port. The project
received the “Project of the Year” award from the Industrial Fabrics
Association International (IFAI).Gerhard Pichel, president of GPA, was
the project principal on this project while employed with another firm.
